Black Mountain

The greening of the mountains from Tanbark Ridge overlook, elevation 3175 feet, Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina. The road seen in upper left is the parkway as it continues northeast. Can you see the little houses, including my favorite, the red roofed one?

Butter anyone?

These with the geared handles look pretty serious. Women never had to worry about keeping their upper arms in shape in those days!

Yes, a pitcher of clay, for milk or other libations!

And the final question, how many people could make butter with one of these today? Is this an art form that our ancestors used frequently that has been lost?  I sure hope not.
