Live simply and deliberately. By choosing not to get caught up in the details of this fast-paced world, you are doing your part to slow down the rat race and quell consumerism. You will also discover that you have more time to enjoy being alive.
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">2. Stay in touch with yourself. Soul searching, meditation, and journaling are just a few of the many activities you can take part in to stay aware and learn as much as you can about your emotions, reactions, likes, dislikes, dreams, and fears. Having a solid sense of self gives you a firm foundation for living in this world.
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">3. Support or teach others as often as you can. This can help you form connections with people while also giving you an opportunity to make the world a better place.
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">4. Consciously choose what you will allow into your being. The media bombards us with visions of hate, war, and pain. Be judicious about what you read, watch, and listen to.
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">5. Acknowledge the beauty that resides around you. Whether you live in a sprawling metropolis or a stereotypical suburb, there are natural and man-made wonders just waiting to be discovered by you.
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">6. Nurture your ties to your community. If you don’t have one, create one that you can belong to. Modern life can be isolating. When you have a community, you have a circle that you are a part of. Its members – loved ones, friends, or neighbors – can be a source of support, caring, guidance, and companionship.
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">7. See the larger picture. Remember that the way you choose to live is not the only way to live. Widen your perspective by exploring other modes of being through research, travel, and discussion.
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">8. Embrace the challenges that life presents to you, and challenge yourself often. After a time, even the most exciting jobs or lifestyles can seem routine. Never stop assimilating new knowledge about whatever you are doing, and your life will never seem dull.
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">9. Move your body. In this busy world, it can be easy to live a sedentary life. Movement reacquaints us with our bodies and connects us to the earth in a visceral way. It also restores our vitality.
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">10. Make time for stillness, silence, and solitude. The world can be noisy, and we are subject to all kinds of noises nearly every waking hour. We are also often on the go and unable to relax. Being alone in a peaceful place and making time for quiet can help you stay in touch with yourself.
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">From Daily Om (which sometimes has some good advice, I think.)
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">No need for more quotes today.
<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">What do you think?

<p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: inherit;">

Barbara Rogershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08351113054045427775noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8260586819821554181.post-82002527296526212652024-03-10T03:00:00.047-04:002024-03-10T03:00:00.242-04:00Views out my window
March 10: Daylight Savings Time (spring ahead)

Beginning of orchid blooms, Jan 16. With the completion of a railroad connection in the late-nineteenth century, the Black Mountain area became a popular gateway for tourists to visit Mount Mitchell and the surrounding mountains. Lucien and Rosalie Phillips opened the Monte Vista Hotel in 1919 in a former school building and built a fifteen-room annex in 1926. The Phillips's borrowed $70,000 during the height of the Depression to construct the modern brick building, which was designed by architect S. Grant Alexander and built by Connally Dougherty. The Monte Vista Hotel, which has operated continuously since 1919, meets National Register Criterion A in the area of Entertainment/Recreation as one of the largest and most successful hotels in Black Mountain. A six-room addition to the hotel built ca. 1940, soon after the main building was completed, and an attached sixteen-room annex built in 1980 are located to the rear of the main building. The period of significance for the hotel, which remains in operation, extends from the construction of the main building in 1926 to 1957.

Today The Monte Vista Hotel still functions as a hotel with full bar and restaurant, as well as venue space for weddings and gatherings. The Democrat party identifies a fight in our country between democracy vs. autocracy, which is also global. But it starts - its roots are here- in my backyard. It goes up the chain to the national level which impacts global - i.e. the Ukraine not receiving funds to combat Putin's autocratic invasion, due to blockage of funds from right-wing Christian Republicans in Congress "playing a deadly game" under tRump's malicious directions...the autocratic thrust of politics today.

New gadget after showing a picture I.D. Gag.

But there are many people watching me, (is this a good thing?) and a helper appeared immediately to go back to the screen I was on before! Whew. Since I already had my phone up to see my list of choices recommended by the Sierra Club, I could just take photos without anyone knowing.

I talked with a friend who said she never votes in primaries. I tried to stress that these are the school boards who end up making decisions about schools teaching correct history or letting kids say they're gay, judges who make decisions right in our community about people's behaviors, justice toward racism, and even a governor like our current one who finally got Medicaid increases from the Feds to be approved (it took several years while all the Medicaid patients waited.) The state legislature is only one seat in each house from no longer being GOP controlled...so having the right candidates to knock the GOP out is important.

Anyway, I'll keep pushing her to vote. No wonder these beauties look at us askance so often!

Feeling kind of out of it for writing. Plus dentist appointment early this morning. I'll let you know tomorrow how I did!

And a bit ah ha...which is definitely the source of my recurring and awful cough problems. I have a Brita Filter Pitcher. I scrubbed it out the last time I changed the filter at the beginning of the month. My granddaughter's next door apartment burned yesterday, but hers wasn't damaged, except the firement clawed open her ceiling to make sure there was no fire up there. The fire-wall between the framed wood apartment held it back. But now she's looking for a place to roost temporarily. So glad nobody was hurt, and her things just have insulation and wallboard all over them.

And then...updated 7:33 am. The dentist office just called and canceled my appointment. I was half dressed. Two more weeks. But I don't feel normal now...getting up so early and nothing to do!

Today's quote:

Gratitude is the way the heart remembers––remembers kindnesses, cherished interactions with others, compassionate actions of strangers, surprise gifts, and everyday blessings.

ROBERT EMMONS

Barbara Rogershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08351113054045427775noreply@blogger.com17
