Last week we had daily rain in Western North Carolina. And sometimes there were just a few hours a day when it wasn't pouring.
Maybe some of you saw rainbows. I didn't. But I did visit my favorite creek to see how it was faring. Flat Creek in Montreat, NC.
This picture has a flash which was unintended, but it brings out all the mist that was above the torrents of water. I was hoping somehow to share that with you.
The creek was running high and fast, and recent rain had taken down a few dead trees as well.
This natural sculpture almost looks designed.

There is usually a drop at this cascade of about 3 feet, maybe more. Today water wanted it's level and fast!
Tomorrow I'll show you some of the pretty flora that we saw.

Rather an unintended flash than an unexpected flash flood. There seem to have been quite a few of those around the northern hemisphere in the last couple of weeks, judging by the news appearing on our TVs. We've had our fair share of rain too, but it's been accompanied with some very cold weather including, a little further south, plenty of snow.
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of creeks & streams as they babble along over rocks & tree roots, etc. in the late spring & summer. I also thrill to the sound of them in the winter when they rush along with a bit of a roar. But we now live on a hill with no creek or stream, so I had my husband install a fountain & if I close my eyes, I can hear the babble of a creek again. :))

ReplyDeleteWe had over 8 inches here in downtown Asheville last week. As I write this I've just watched video of the horrendous floods in India and China from the past weeks. The force of water can be monstrous and we are very lucky that we have been spared (so far) the tragic flooding that other places have endured.
