Helen and Barb - adventuring on the Blue Ridge Parkway
We left Asheville and headed south on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Peek color was there especially on lower elevations. It had passed on higher ones, and indeed the deciduous trees were bare of any leaves.
But the Parkway goes up and down to follow ridges and connect to good trails.

A bit of red from something not an oak! (Maybe some maple, and perhaps sourwood.) This overlook was to look behind us, rather than through the trees. I preferred the trees. Sleepy Gap Overlook, eleva. 2930, Crest of Pisgah Ridge. The ridge was really evident as the Parkway followed it along for miles, with our being able to look down into valleys on either side often.

ReplyDeleteLovely shot of you and Helen. The trees and views are beautiful. Hubby and I noticed the same things along the Skyline Drive on Friday, the lower elevation trees were more colorful. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!

ReplyDeleteDefinitely something like that! Not sure I want to be called hoary-headed! I guess it's hard to see all that white hair and not come up with a flattering description! It's definitely better than Q-tips.

ReplyDeleteIt was more than just looking for colors, after we noticed different trees at different elevations, we felt like explorers to try to determine how far up or down we were.

ReplyDeleteI don't know if you saw previous fall foliage posts through the years, but we've notoriously missed peek color by going too early! So it was really nice to see some of the peek colors.
