At the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway...
I just came across these somewhat interesting photos. At least they were interesting to me at the time.
Weaving was the avenue of making some money for needed things, as well as a craft in itself.

Yesterday it stopped snowing around noon.Then pretty sunny skies and that melted most of the snow where the sun hit...but it was still below freezing. So I stayed in, and plan to go out when it gets into the 40s on Sunday.

Drat and darn...the reply disappeared again. Good think I happened to count, and wondered how an odd number of comments was up again. Eileen, I sometimes have to dig to find your comments, and now my replies have started to disappear. Blogger is acting up again! Thanks for stopping by. Yes, there is a lot more to the Folk Art Center than this one little corner! They now are asking no photos in much of the areas though.

ReplyDeleteIt's strange when bright sun is shining, so my car will be hot inside when I get in. So I'll take off all my outdoor gear to drive somewhere, then need to put it on again.
DeleteNeat to see the ladder back chairs hanging from the balcony. In the 2nd to last photo is that someone's living room or a shop?

ReplyDeleteSun is out this morning (Sunday) and yet it's in 20s F. I had planned to go to laundromat early, to beat the crowd. I'd better get scooting. It's already 10:20!
DeleteWith two dogs in our household I'm always in tune with the weather conditions. On cold/wet days in my neighborhood the only people outside are always us dog walkers. The Folk Art Center is one of my favorite places to visit, especially when shopping for gifts. Though I appreciate the technical beauty of modern craft artists, it is still the work of old time mountain folkcrafters that impress me most.

DeleteNice road trip you had! We talked about driving up to Marietta, Ohio today to see the ice sculptures, but we both just weren't motivated enough to go. Home is just so inviting sometimes.

DeleteWe haven't had any snow - just tons of rain, rain, rain! The first thing to catch my eye in the 3rd picture was the ladderback chair sitting at the end of the table. And then came the next pic' with all those ladderback chairs hanging up! I love ladderback chairs! I have one and wish I had more.

ReplyDeleteOne of my daughters lives at Hambidge in the Georgia mountains, it's been cold but no snow yet.
ReplyDeleteI love the Folk Art Center! They did an exhibit about 20 years ago of our community quilts--from whence came our book of the same name.
