The Doctor's House, Old Salem, NC

Doctor Vrieling and his family lived here.  There's another sign on the corner which says the street level has been raised, and it still was a steep climb to the front door.

I loved seeing the parlours, then the family meeting area around a supper table, but I didn't take pictures of every room.

I was thrilled by the knowledgeable presentation by our young guide, who gave me permission to take her picture.

Implements on the counter were surgeons tools for amputation (apparently relative to the War of 1812 town-wide focus this weekend).

Our guide knew what the herbs were, and what they best treated.

Quote for the day:

For after all, the best thing one can do when it is raining is to let it rain.   Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

So glad to have your comments...whatever they may be. I'm one who likes to reply sometime or another, so others will see that; or you might happen back sometime and see what conversation might have started.
