Fair in the fall

Come to Dillsboro, NC the first weekend in November, every year for the greatest collection of outdoor pottery booths ever! I am unable to attend it this year, so hope some of my friends will carry their cameras and share with me.

Quote for the day:

“To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter; to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life.”

Playing in water

In the town up the valley from Black Mountain, namely Montreat, is a wonderful little park that focuses upon straddling a creek.

Many children in the mountains of North Carolina grew up playing in creeks in the summertime.

But many kids these days live around concrete, not creeks.  So I happened to visit this park when a big bus also brought a lot of small ones to enjoy whatever kids do in water.  I know I wished I had worn my suit and felt like sitting in it and moving some rocks around.

I'll show a few more pictures of these happy kids tomorrow!

Today's Quote:

It always comes back to the same necessity: go deep enough and there is a bedrock of truth, however hard.

I'm posting just one picture of the former Beacon Blanket Factory, and will have more to say over here on my other blog, When I was Sixty Nine.
Today's a great chance to click on some links to go exploring!

Rainy day

Rainy winter days are great for visiting galleries, here's Crimson Laurel Gallery (from the parking lot) in Bakersville, NC
http://www.crimsonlaurelgallery.com/
They have a great web page, and are well worth the hour drive from Black Mountain or Asheville.
A great thing to do on a rainy day.
And no, they have no idea I'm posting this, so I don't receive anything (discount, ad fees, etc) for saying any of this.

Stones

wonderful wall of stone at Brevard College, Brevard, NC
As you drive around western North Carolina, you may see a few houses built out of this beautiful stone as well.  (I'll have to go take some pictures for you, won't I?)
