Chiffarobe and Curiosity Shoppe

Chiffarobe Store is to the left, with the yellow Open sign propped up.  And to the right is The Curiosity Shoppe with antiques which includes vintage clothing.  That's about the main difference I could figure out.  It has the red Open sign.  Both stores are such fun to browse around in!

Cherry Street Square Shops

I haven't often shopped down Cherry Street, but keep hearing about all these great little places tucked in here and there off Cherry Street.

So the other day I decided to see what I'd been missing.  I'll share one shop a day if I can restrain myself.  Yesterday I somehow posted 2 nurseries (not planned that way.)

Painter's Nursery

A nursery that opens only in the spring, and probably does a lot of wholesale sales, is a great place for us Sunday gardeners too...low prices and healthy plants, and answers to questions.

The signs along the highway are small, and always we think, is this it yet?  But no, we eventually find it.

With the cold and late spring this year, there aren't as many plant outside as at this time last year, but we were so happy to see real bathrooms rather than the line of blue Port-O-Lets.

The only veggies out were cold hardy ones like spinach, cabbage, kale and broccoli.

Inside the huge greenhouse I found an interesting bloom (the out of focus kind) on a Spanish (or maybe Mexican) Lavender.

A sweet visitor fluttered around some other blooms.  And yes, I did succumb to purchasing a few little pretties for my container gardening this year.  More on that later...

Quote for the day:
Be contented with what you possess in life; be thankful for what does not belong to you, for it is so much care the less; but try to obtain what you need in life, and make the best of every moment of your life.

Mellie Mac Nursery

Since we were in the mood to look at all things plants, and the weather was warm and sunny here last Saturday, we stopped in Black Mountain's own nursery to see about more things we needed (to have, to know.)

Thought for the day:
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.

Along the way, Moooo-ve over

We slowed down when we suddenly saw some critters strollin' down the road.  Going south from Old Fort, NC to Painter's Nursery on Saturday, this is what greeted us.  A lot of tails.

The four bovine youth were out on an adventure, not paying much attention to us, but also not letting us pass.

Cars coming toward us were already stopped, so they just ambled by.  How were we to get around them?  The ditch on our side dropped away too much, they had no interest in it.

As if Cathy had herded cows every day in her VW, she just slipped up on the right, and as long as it was a straight-away, we finally were able to slip by.

I hadn't noticed all the other cars behind us with the same problem, until we were finally in the clear.

When we came back the same road on the way home an hour or so later, we wondered where they had wandered to, and how their owner would retrieve them.  Cowboys and trailers wanted!
