Repost from 2019

And though snow fell once (maybe twice with rain) in 2023, there was no accumulation here. We shall see what comes along in the next year...

Just on the ridge

Out the window of the Vet's office, as Muffin and I waited to be seen one day, I noticed the trees across the road on the ridge.

Yes, many of us see this all winter long.  There are no leaves.  There is no snow.  Some days it's sunny and warm.  Some days it's sunny and cold.  And some days...you know the rest.

Just keep looking for something beautiful out there!

Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

Winter of "yore"

Montreat in the snow, 2011 winter - I was hoping to replace this with a more recent one, but this year has been pretty sparse on snow in Black Mountain and Montreat.  Up on higher peaks, it has fallen a few times though!

Sorry about not posting on Washington's birthday, I think that must have some cosmic reason, of which I can't possibly fathom.  But I'm back!

The color of snow

January 2011 had lots of snow in my front yard.
We have a little bit forecast tomorrow, but it's due to melt pretty quickly.

You all who live up in the real snow country, I know how tired of it you can get...but I just would like one or two days looking like this.

This is being sent to Friday Fences.

Asheville view

Looking east towards Asheville, with a bridge over the French Broad River in foreground
This is the funniest short cut, or maybe long cut would be more descriptive, of getting to Westgate Shopping Center, coming from the River Arts District.  Have you ever done this hairpin up and down excursion?

Brightness in the season

You know this flower, all over the place for the holidays, giving a nice spark to the grey winter days.  Can you spell it without looking it up?  Poinsettia?
