Black Mountain

The greening of the mountains from Tanbark Ridge overlook, elevation 3175 feet, Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina. The road seen in upper left is the parkway as it continues northeast. Can you see the little houses, including my favorite, the red roofed one?

Contrasts

The mighty oak has beautiful variations of gold and orange and brown which show off in great contrast against a blue clear sky.

Comment by the author: Yesterday I read a blog (FOLKWAYS NOTEBOOK) which showed the tent city for homeless in her local town.  Thanks, Barbara.  I had to comment about my own experience, thus:
"I like it that you shared this story, and the photos (would have liked to see the fence in color however).  And I agree with your opinions.  There's a big gap between what people say (or do) in church especially about "charity begins at home," and the lives we lead (I'm part of it.)"

Here I'm adding the rest of the story..."Yesterday I had 2 opportunities to maybe help someone else...but didn't take them.  A driving example was to let someone into my lane who was waiting.  The walker who looked laden down didn't get invited into my car...I haven't the courage to risk doing that.  But I counted those 2 opportunities passed as my own loss."

Quote for today:

We're all just walking each other home.

  1. Yeah, I often wish I could give someone a ride -- but there are too any scary stories . . . Great quotes from Ram Dass.
