Black Mountain

The greening of the mountains from Tanbark Ridge overlook, elevation 3175 feet, Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina. The road seen in upper left is the parkway as it continues northeast. Can you see the little houses, including my favorite, the red roofed one?

Craggy is the name for a reason

Well, it's probably because of the rocky outcrop above the rhododendron forest, where hikers get a great view of the Black Mountains and the various valleys and ridges...but this rhododendron certainly qualifies as craggy also.

  1. I understand that you have lots of native rhododendrons growing in N.C. Nice that you show this interesting craggy form -- so often one only sees rhododendron blooms in images. Thanks for this interesting photo -- barbara
