Black Mountain

The greening of the mountains from Tanbark Ridge overlook, elevation 3175 feet, Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina. The road seen in upper left is the parkway as it continues northeast. Can you see the little houses, including my favorite, the red roofed one?

The after-snow

To those who haven't yet seen the bare ground, or parking stripes, I ask you to enjoy our sunshine that blessed us yesterday with much melting.

I also send out a big cheer for all those who were awake in the night (many times in many places) plowing the roads while more snow was falling.

But my biggest appreciation is for the garbage collecting teams.  I read this week that they are at higher risk than policemen for injury on the job.  No kidding.

Did you ever hear of a kid wanting to grow up and be a garbage collector?
The unsung heroes of our lives.

  1. We have seen the parking stripes but the ground is still heavily covered with snow. Thank goodness for the 40s on Thursday.

  2. We had a garbage collector in our town who had two boys in our school. They were genius level guys who grew up to be great inventors. I am betting the garbage man was pretty smart but didn't want to do much with it.

So glad to have your comments...whatever they may be. I'm one who likes to reply sometime or another, so others will see that; or you might happen back sometime and see what conversation might have started.
