From a post in 2011- a pit firing at Marsha Cozart's home. I see Bette Potter Jones, Sarah Vekasi, Charles Freeland, Ellen (?), Bob Cozart, Geoff Bird, Mary Vekasi and hubby!
OK, if you were there, you know how delicious it was. And fun to watch that barrel smoking those pots down the hill. Sitting on the deck was fun, chatting too. So here are the pics.Green flames were fun, probably from copper carbonate that Charles liberally sprinkled on sawdust!
Ah, the pork, the salad, the beans, the mac 'n cheese, the deserts...can't remember them all but we were stuffed with wonderful food!
Ellen demonstrates how to go down that invisible step, which had already been christened with wine.
Once you settle in an Adarondack chair, then eat, you're in big trouble getting up again.
Just before we left, as it was getting dark and we had about 15 miles of mountains to wind through, there was this tiny bright red bird with black wings, just barely visible. Can you tell what it is?

Hello,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time, the barrel fire, the food and good friends. Your red bird with black wings, could be the male Scarlet Tanager. Take care, enjoy your day!
So glad a birder finally let me know what the bird had been. Thanks. It was a very nice time getting to know the pottery people and their families.
Delete...nice memories.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to find this old blog with photos...which is my resource for many good memories.
DeleteAww, good times! I don’t know why Adirondack chairs are so popular except they look cheery.
ReplyDeleteThey're relatively comfortable, but oh, sometimes so hard to rise out of them!
DeleteScarlet tanager came to mind too. A rare sighting.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your vote for the bird id.
DeleteWhat a great memory! And someone remembered to take pictures, so you all have them to enjoy today.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Scarlet Tanager male. Not a bird commonly seen as they prefer deep woods.
This house was deep in the woods, and many people were told they needed 4 wheel drive to get up the steep driveway. I managed in my little Toy-ota. Thanks for verifying the bird id. I have been a pest often with a camera.
DeleteLovely photos of such sweet gatherings with friends. And lovely to see that Scarlet Tanager. Haven't seen one of those in many years.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good time held together with people who came to make pottery, and share food and conversations. I don't remember ever seeing a Scarlet Tanager before or since.
DeleteMemories of the great times with friends.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely that. Smiles as I see the younger faces, but that wasn't so long ago after all.
DeleteLooks like a good time.
