Celebrating Earth Day

Early morning (for me) up at 8. Made coffee. Checked stuff on computer while nibbling on granola, blue berries and yogurt. It was raining. It was just 46 degrees F outside. My mini-split unit on the wall was heating the apartment a bit.

The dogwoods have been losing their petals, so I walked between beautiful pale pink snow on the ground outside my door.

Facebook video of Earth Day

My friends from the Climate Conversation group hosted an interactive display again at Lake Tomahawk. I was unable to attend due to cold wet weather, which makes my COPD and coughing worse.

Annelinde Metzner led the Sahara Peace Choir in singing some Earth Day type songs.

If I can download the photos I took with my iPhone, I'll add them tomorrow.

These were from my friend Kevin Jones, who showed folks how to make Kieffer.

Remembering Last Wednesday

If that tabletop in the foreground didn't look so lopsided this could have been a header photo. Oh well...

I don't think including the graffiti and the bench inside the gazebo helps though.

The very last of the pretty red leaves. And we enjoy all these mild sunny days, but for how long? Fires have been starting out in the woods all over North Carolina. We desperately need rain.

Had to get a close up

At first I thought the grass had just been cut, but maybe several days ago. Not at all the season for pollen here!

I went to a meeting with a student from Warren Wilson College, writing a paper about Climate Change actions in this area.
Suzanne and I spoke about the Climate Conversation group.

It was great to learn about young people who are interested in Climate Change...and all the options that are available to work for change.

These weren't the men putting up the Holiday decorations along the main streets...they were "real electricians working on the lines."

Facing the truth upfront rather than turning from it will keep your life moving in a forward and positive direction.

Climate Conversation continued

This shows you the kind of work we do...talking about bulk buying of ethically produced goods...here the sunshine of S.'s shirt matches a roll of "Who Gives a Crap" tissue wrap. I think it's made of bamboo (the tissue.) After I try it I might go in for a small part of a bulk purchase.

Several of us decided it was a beautiful day and we'd replenish our calories with my favorite Mexican restaurant, Ole' Guacamoles.

We enjoyed sitting out under these "whatever they're called."

No that's not razor wire along the handrail on the bridge...but twinkle lights.

And the Flat Creek flows on it's way to the Swannanoa River.

PS, I decided to go back to basic white background, whew, what a relief. And I couldn't wait till my birthday to take down my photo.
