Art Gallery additions

The Red House Gallery will have its current exhibition up for another couple of weeks.  I enjoyed being docent one Sunday afternoon recently, and snapped a few more photos to share.

 This quilted piece is lovely.

 Mac Read's Girl on the Rocks made me very uncomfortable. Another artist (male) just thought it was a great juxtaposition of textures. I guess I had empathy for the model lying against the rocks/

 It's so hard to photograph art behind glass.

 A huge line drawing won first prize (worth some amount of dollars).  I didn't see it as the best expression of these artists, but I wasn't asked to be the juror.

I liked the following fabric piece, both for topic and the way it was assembled. It didn't get the blue ribbon, though.

Though Herb Way's photo is beautiful, the reflected room and my hands and phone make this view interesting in a different way.

I had a chance to stroll among the art at the Red House the other day.  And I made a few new friends.

I looked around one of our best plant sale opportunities on Saturday.  It was around noon, so not yet the 91 degrees which it reached in the afternoon.  Poor plants.  Poor plant sellers.

I had one goal in mind. To get my cilantro from which I can nip leaves for enhancing my eating pleasure. And I found it finally!

 Yes, this herbal selection included cilantro! I was thrilled!

 And there's my other purchase...a lavender to replace the one I grew from seeds that died last year.

 Up the hill behind the flat plane of an old swimming pool is the Red House Gallery.

Sharing some art with you

I went to the reception for the Red House artists' latest show on Friday.
Here are some of the art pieces which I admired...but there's a lot more, not to mention open artist studios every day.

These are ceramic with plastic plants.  And they are priced like collectors art...but I bet they will sell! Lovely!

We had to move my treasure boxes to a lower display, because if they are up at eye level, you can't see the heart shapes of the lids!

Art is alive and well in Black Mountain

Very small print...Opening Reception Feb 8, 5-7 pm.  I like being a member of this group of artists...and having my work shown in their little gallery.  The Red House a.k.a Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League.  They are located next to the Monte Vista Hotel (which owns the building.) The hotel has a new owner, so I don't know it the Red House will continue to rent the studio/gallery building from them.

The other morning this bank of clouds seemed stuck on the mountains, slowly pouring over the low spot into the valley.

From the front porch of the Red House, looking toward State Street.  Now this huge old tree will only be half as shady as before.

I stopped by to renew my membership yesterday.  Now to make some art that I can share in a show at their gallery!
