Tri-state boundary

A 1913 photo (according to the writing at bottom) of the markers of the states which join here. Tennessee and Virginia are on the white stone, and for some reason the Kentucky marker is a few yards away.  But they all do have a corner in common somewhere up there.  Which mountain, and what's the town down the hill?

So I wanted to know what the mountain was. And what the town in the distance was.
I stumbled upon the history of these surveyed boundaries.  And of course they go back to when European men decided they wanted to live on Native American's land. And the French and Indian War, and the Revolutionary War.  And how kings of England gifted property in the Americas to those who did them favors.

I am so glad that there's now a national monument, much better than the one depicted above.

Ah, the journey home is so sweet!

 After many hours of windy driving, sometimes with sleet or snow flakes, finally I saw some blue ahead, was it sky or mountains? I left early to avoid some bad weather (I think it was named Bruce up north.)

I'd driven this journey in more level mountains of Kentucky rather than West Virginia and Virginia.   Tennessee and North Carolina have mountains to say welcome home...after driving through them from Knoxville to Asheville!

And sunshine with some leaves still showing color!

Two tunnels, and then a few more miles and I was home again.  The only problem from being away for a week was that the electricity must have been off for a while because...the fish all died.  Thank heavens it's on now, and now I'm putting on the rubber gloves and sloshing out some really yucky stuff.
