While I was sleeping

 ...or at least healing.

The week and a half since I saw the house build on First St. showed this. I would have tried for another shot, but suddenly there was this unhappy car passing around me. I forgot to even put on my blinkers, I think my mental acuity was still not at the highest level. I drove home carefully.

And I paused before coming inside, to snap this of the porch plants. I finally watered them  after 2 days of forecasts that were fabrications. None of the pottery sculpture has been dragged out again, and I'm thinking of letting some of it go...which is a big trick with heavy pottery. My son said he's going to get rid of some of his sculptures (which these are also).

So the rest of Wednesday was pretty subdued. Listened to my book a while, watched NCIS old shows and Jeopardy from last month. Life is simple.

Grateful and hoping the fever cycle is behind me. No coughing at least (this was at 9 pm Wed.)

 At the Vance/Hemphill homestead in Weaverville, NC we were enjoying wonderful weather to trapse across mowed grass from one building to another.

I didn't ask, but I did wonder where the outhouse had been. 

Incidentally when I moved to the Asheville area in 2007, most of the literature about historic homes, stories, and especially what was said to tourists was: "in these mountains and Asheville itself, there weren't many slaves, because there weren't the plantations like other areas in the state."

I'm really glad "Black Lives Matter" has established a much more honest look that there were many people of color around throughout history.

construction almost finished

One of my neighbors, the house on the corner, has had lots of work over the last year.  It's beginning to look as if inhabitants might move in soon.  (there was lots of landscaping with those little white earth movers, and the tree trimmers came again...I'll show you that soon.)

PS. I just heard from the owner that another house will be built beside this one by her in-laws.  There is an empty lot (which we're looking across) which is owned by her husband's parents.  Oh my!

I wish I had a "before" photo to share, and there's probably one buried in this summer's many shots...of the jungle which hid the empty house.

basically the neice/nephew of the woman who owns the next door house decided to take all the growth out...azaleas, roses, and weeds as well.  I call it the scalped yard.  The owner is in a nursing home.  I feel so bad that nobody cares for her house.  Unless you consider this caring.

Nice house

In New England it was called a salt box, I think.  Here it is a typical southern farm house.  With additions.

I have no idea when it was built, but this little spur of highway leading to Linville Falls had several just like it...and this is the one I wanted pictures of.  It's for sale too!
