Nice waterfalls

Everyone knows how to find things these days, but I must say the drive up to Linville Falls was just lovely last week.  The trees aren't as brilliant as they are some years, but when we'd come round a bend and see one against a dark bluff of the mountain, it was breath taking.

Helen and I have now made this an annual trip, since we did the same route last year.  We talked about going up to Blowing Rock, since we were almost there, and I didn't remember seeing the Viaduct on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  But we were too hungry to do so at that point.  When we come again, we'll schedule things a bit better.

The first view of the falls on the easy half mile walk down to the viewing area.

The wind twisted the poplar leaves about!

They've opened a new area for viewing...which makes sense.

We were continually struck by the roots of trees that wound through rocks.  The rock on the right was mercifully cut by man, thus the path didn't have to go over or around it.

More tomorrow of the falls.

Quote for today (I know, I forgot to give you one yesterday.)

To be astonished is one of the surest ways of not growing old too quickly.
