Around town update

 

The work continues on the additions, but we can still see the bones of the original building in the stonework. https://www.facebook.com/NorthCarolinaGlassCenter will be opening soon.

They posted on Facebook this morning (Fri) that a cat had some kittens in the chimney and the construction workers moved them to another store. Asking if anyone owned her, of course. Other Black Mountain businesses said they'd contribute to vet bills for her to be spayed if nobody claims her.

A few little critters

 

Puff isn't the least disturbed by John Wayne who's on a leash. She's in a nice warm spot, and can keep an eye on him.

She kind of is teasing him I think.

Though I know John Wayne can bark, he made nary a sound.

With permission from their mother, I took this pic of these 7 month old twins.

And look what I spied through the crowd! I gestured to take it's photo, got a nod yes, and "excused me" through to get closer.

She said she's holding one hand, so he can't fly away. I wish I'd learned more about him. I looked up various parrots, but none had a red beak. I wonder if she'll come to the Tailgate Market again (like the twins did!)

As noted below in a reply to a comment, I stayed home from the market today with a fever, so that's why I'm blogging instead. I might say some interesting things in my feverish state, however!

It's Hodge Podge Day again!

 

Yes we've all been seeing eclipse photos. But this is too pretty to pass up sharing!

Locomotive engine being swung across a canyon with the Rio Grande River below. New Mexico. c.1915. The question in my mind is, which side is Mexico, and which side is New Mexico, not that it matters that much.

This is always worth considering, especially since I might make a green great dragon, which can't exist! Only if he's the grandson of the wonderful great green dragon grandmother.

Speaking of dragons...just look at these hummingbirds!

Short walk at Lake Tomahawk

 

Even on a grey day, one can find beauty at the lake. Reflections are softened.

This Canada Goose couple owned the right of way for walkers, but would let us pass if we didn't look too threatening. I do wonder what they think of the black cards/phones which people point at them like I did here.

The Mallard families waddled away from the lake, and I do hope they were cautious as they cross the road in the distance.

An Oak Hydrangea still had last year's blooms' skeletons, while the new growth is bursting forth!

What's the password please? 

And then there was the cherry tree.

Since the B&B beyond the fence is no longer in business, but sold to a private family, I do hope someone keeps these beautiful gardens up.

Just a couple of critters

 Today is International Panda Day

Winter is almost over...soon I can share the buds around the lake. The construction on the dam hasn't started yet.

You can see the mud flats of Lake Tomahawk in the background. It rained yesterday, so most of the lake has water covering it (rather shallow I'd say).

I had to stop and pet these adorable soft little dogs. So no more photos of them!

Just wanted to share them with my blogging friends, who will have many more critters posted! Thanks Eileen for hosting the Saturday Critters.

A Saturday hodge podge!

 
Good morning (when I am writing this!)

I hear birds chirping, though we're back to winter temps...but at least no snow and it will stay above freezing all day!

Not my shot, and this bird obviously isn't outside my windows...but I had it in my files!

Someone else posted this beautiful tree. Now that's a great example where a tree can just grow and grow all directions...but I wonder if there isn't a space underneath where kids could hide.

Last week I was at a birthday party for a dear friend, who just turned 39 (er 90!). Bette is also a Mudbuddy too!

Today in Black Mountain there will be hundreds of runners that hope to run up to Mt. Mitchell, but due to snow probably at high elevations, it may just be a marathon, turning around and coming back to Black Mountain from the Blue Ridge Parkway. For me it means lots of new people in town that are in the parking places I usually would use!
