Black Mountain

The greening of the mountains from Tanbark Ridge overlook, elevation 3175 feet, Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina. The road seen in upper left is the parkway as it continues northeast. Can you see the little houses, including my favorite, the red roofed one?

Who made the dam?

Gotta give credit to what makes my favorite walking place, Lake Tomahawk.

It's an earthen dam.

So it's been there since 1934.  I bet a lot has changed since then.

A footbridge (on left in this picture) crosses over the sluice, so my walk stays more or less level as it goes across the dam top.

More dam pictures (I bet you thought I really was waiting to say that...ha) HERE.
