Along the way, Moooo-ve over

We slowed down when we suddenly saw some critters strollin' down the road.  Going south from Old Fort, NC to Painter's Nursery on Saturday, this is what greeted us.  A lot of tails.

The four bovine youth were out on an adventure, not paying much attention to us, but also not letting us pass.

Cars coming toward us were already stopped, so they just ambled by.  How were we to get around them?  The ditch on our side dropped away too much, they had no interest in it.

As if Cathy had herded cows every day in her VW, she just slipped up on the right, and as long as it was a straight-away, we finally were able to slip by.

I hadn't noticed all the other cars behind us with the same problem, until we were finally in the clear.

When we came back the same road on the way home an hour or so later, we wondered where they had wandered to, and how their owner would retrieve them.  Cowboys and trailers wanted!

  1. Oh wow how interesting. Who would ever think the strollers would use your use of highway when they have own pastures. Well it seems that way. They like your lanes to travel. I am sure they are holding up traffic but they don't care. Time is nothing to them.

Love your takes. A good morning smile. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Glad to have you drop by. This was so hilarious to experience in this day and age!

  2. Too cute. Reminds me of the Bison in Yellowstone Park. They amble down the middle of the highway, and back cars up in both directions for miles!

    1. Oh yes, but that's at least a National Park, so having a regular highway experience this was a bit of a surprise!

  3. I once drove behind a goat who was straddling the yellow line and walking along. I was afraid if I tried to pass he would move in front of the car. Wonder how far the boys kept going?

    1. Well, they should be about to Brevard by now!

    2. Today they won't have room. Today is the Assault on the Carolinas bike race. No room for cows in the midst of all those bikes.

  4. Cattle on an adventure! My first thought was to be thankful they weren't ours -- having had to chase vagrant bovines down the road before this.
