Helen and Barb (3)

Highest elevation is at Richland Balsam Overlook, which was mobbed with cars and motorcycles. Elevation was 6053, at Mile marker 431.4

North facing cliff face. Don't miss the two people at the base of the cliff. Blue Ridge Parkway, near it's highest elevation. (This was the second wall of ice we saw, so I'll post the other one in a few days!)

Helen bravely pulled off on the grassy shoulder of the road, and this was the view from that side.

Looking north toward Canton, or maybe Waynesville...but that tiny lake isn't Lake Juneleska. Somewhere in that direction is Cold Mountain.

All the colorful leaves were at lower elevations.

    1. We were comfortable in the sun with shirt sleeves (no coats). But had to wear coats if there was a wind from the north! Oh yes!

  2. Beautiful views. It must be very cold at night for the ice to be on the cliff. Great photos. Take care, enjoy your day!

    1. But it's still less than our highest peak, Mt. Mitchell at 6694 feet.

    1. It's surprising how much water seeps through the mountains.

  6. My goodness, ice already. What great views, though. I didn't realize NC had such high elevations.

    1. These are the end of the Appalachian chain, with the Smoky Mountain Park also nearby in Tennessee.

    1. Yes indeed. My plants are again uncovered on the front porch, and it's due to rain! But I see more frosts coming along. This was a beautiful day.
