The Yellow Brick Road

A mural of the Yellow Brick Road from the Wizzard of Oz. It's interesting that the court house is their destination. It's on a wall in Burnsville, NC, the county seat of Yancy county. There used to be a theme park nearby in the Appalachian Mountains. I think it's closed now. The weather has not been kind to this painting.

And Toto too! With the artists signature (Rhea Ormond, 2009) as well as a real dog bowl on the sidewalk.

When we empower ourselves to create what we want through making art, we will also create what we want in the art that is our life.

  1. Lovely mural, and I like the whimsical touch of the courthouse. I wonder why they would go there? File a complaint? Parking ticket? Disruptive behavior?

    1. Ha ha, to find their wildest dreams...from the man behind the curtain. Sure reminds me of politicians.

  2. ...many murals peel with time if the wall isn't prepared properly. I love this one.

    1. It's sad to see it going after only 14 years. It does face west however.

  4. That is a beautiful mural Barbara. Love the little dog at the bottom. Hope the damage can be repaired and the mural can last a few more years. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals.
